
Charles Wilson is a freelance industrial designer best known for his design
of upholstered furniture. After graduating from the University of Technology,Sydney,
in 1991, Charles formed a co-operative workshop with fellow graduates developing
a collection of experimental furniture. His first production design was the
SW1 Swivel chair for Norman + Quaine. Furniture ranges released since then
include the CP1, Julep, 801, and Boulder. The SW1 Swivel chair has been a
part of the permanent collection of the Powerhouse Museum since 1998.
Recent commissions include the design of a suite of furniture for the state
Drawing Room, NSW Government House, and Base, a modular sofa for Living Edge.
In addition, Charles also works with a number of international manufacturers,
including Danish companies MENU and Paustian and the Indian stainless steel
homewares manufacturer Magppie.
Charles divides his time between living in Sydney and at the farm where he
grew up in Forbes, central NSW.
